On solving the planar k-centrum problem with Euclidean distances

چکیده
This paper presents a solution procedure based on a gradient descent method for the k-centrum problem in the plane. The particular framework of this problem for the Euclidean norm leads to bisector lines whose analytical expressions are easy to handle. This allows us to develop different solution procedures which are tested on different problems and compared with existing procedures in the literature of Location Analysis. The computational analysis reports that our procedures provide better results than the existing ones for the k-centrum problem. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Approximating the Stretch Factor of Euclidean Graphs
There are several results available in the literature dealing with efficient construction of t-spanners for a given set S of n points in Rd. t-spanners are Euclidean graphs in which distances between vertices in G are at most t times the Euclidean distances between them; in other words, distances in G are “stretched” by a factor of at most t. We consider the interesting dual problem: given a Eu...
متن کاملAdaptation of the Probability Changing Method for Weber Problem with an Arbitrary Metric
Fermat-Weber problem in its simple form (unconstrained, single facility, Euclidean metric) is well investigated. Lot of algorithms are also developed for more complicated cases. But the generalized multi-facility problem with barriers, restricted zones and an arbitrary metric has no well-known algorithm for its solving. In this paper, we consider the planar multi-facility Weber problem with res...
متن کاملRandom Search Algorithm for the Generalized Weber Problem
In this paper, we consider the planar multi-facility Weber problem with restricted zones and non-Euclidean distances, propose an algorithm based on the probability changing method (special kind of genetic algorithms) and prove its efficiency for approximate solving this problem by replacing the continuous coordinate values by discrete ones. Version of the algorithm for multiprocessor systems is...
متن کاملMixed planar and network single-facility location problems
We consider the problem of optimally locating a single facility anywhere in a network to serve both on-network and off-network demands. Off-network demands occur in a Euclidean plane, while on-network demands are restricted to a network embedded in the plane. On-network demand points are serviced using shortest-path distances through links of the network (e.g., on-road travel), whereas demand p...
متن کاملA Proof of Erdős-Fishburn's Conjecture for g(6)=13
A planar point set X in the Euclidean plane is called a k-distance set if there are exactly k distances between two distinct points in X. An interesting problem is to find the largest possible cardinality of k-distance sets. This problem was introduced by Erdős and Fishburn (1996). Maximum planar sets that determine k distances for k less than 5 has been identified. The 6-distance conjecture of...
